Granby Green, Plymouth.

Description: As part of Plymouth City Council's regeneration scheme across Plymouth, Ryearch was appointed main contractor to undertake works to Granby Green.

The idea was to form a new 'Piazza style' area to encourage local residents to make more use of the area surrounding them.  The area was enhanced by laying new granite paving's, granite planters, new playground area/park for children, and a segregated area for dog walking.

All roads were re-surfaced, and made safe by the introduction of speed tables and speed ramps with anti-skid surfaces to prevent traffic from speeding.

Further works included, new car parking for residents, granite pillars denoting the edge of the footway, and landscaping., Client: Plymouth City Council, Architect: Plymouth City Council



Big Screen, Plymouth City Centre

Description: Ryearch Ltd laid the foundations for the Big Olympic Screen sponsored by Plymouth City Council in the centre of the city.

The screen shows news events of the day and any special coverage of sports and other national events. The contract had to be completed during the busy summer season with particular regard for the safety of the public.

Astor Park, Plymouth

Description: Plymouth City Council refurbished this Park in the centre of Prince Rock for the benefit of the local community. Areas especially for different age ranges are defined, with children’s play area, covered seats, basket ball court and concrete benches.


The Railings around the site were taken away, stripped, re-galvanised and
re-positioned. The paths re-laid, walls reduced and topped with granite from China. Specific areas were created for everyone, including families, children and teenagers.
Landscaping with grass and trees completed the scheme.

Mill Bay enabling works

Description: On behalf of English Partnerships and in conjunction with Scott Wilson, Ryearch were appointed main contractor to undertake enabling works at Mill Bay.

The works involved the excavation and renewal of some 11000 m3 of material including over 3000m3 of hard limestone rock.

Further works included the construction of a retaining wall consisting of steel columns concreted in sockets drilled into the limestone. In-situ concrete panels were then placed between the columns to complete the retaining wall structure.
 
This, together with associated sewer and service diversions, meant that the regeneration of the Mill Bay area by English Partnerships could commence.
 
The site now contains over 100 apartments, shops and offices, with future re-development, and regeneration works in the pipe line.

Cumberland Gardens, Plymouth

Description: This project revitalized a small park area and surrounding footways to produce a more open, cleaner and safe environment.

Part of the works included filling a subway and approach ramps with recycled materials and installing a zebra crossing at ground level.

Where possible the railings to the park were renewed and the remainder painted a brighter colour. The park was cleared of ground level shrubbery, re turfed, granite paved and various features installed to complete the ambience of the park to encourage public use.

The surrounding footpaths were re paved in granite paving in 3 different colours to complete the overall appearance., Client: Plymouth City Council, Architect: Amey



West End Regeneration Project
Plymouth City Centre £2m

Description: The regeneration of the west end of Plymouth City Centre was particularly complex and proved a huge challenge due to its location and the amount of daily activity. Regular and close liaison between Ryearch, Plymouth City Council, and local business owners ensured a smooth successful construction process.

Traffic management and health and safety were a top priority on this scheme, to enable businesses to trade, and access to the public during the construction process.

The scheme involved removing the existing pavements and carriageways to form new vehicular and pedestrian access routes.  The new areas were formed in granite materials, including sets, paving's, kerbs, bollards, seating and planters.

University of Plymouth

Description: Hard and soft landscaping to an area of 1500 sq metres in the vicinity of James Street, John Lane and Portland Villas.

The works involved a certain amount of taking up, storing and reusing some materials. Local granite was used from the De Lank quarry in Bodmin Cornwall.
